Dialogue between New and Old
The clinic on the Marienberg has been an integral part of the city’s health care for over 100 years. The operational structure as well as the architecture of the entire facility were redesigned and converted into a modern service centre for health. The guiding concept of the design is the cross-shaped overlaying of the historic north-south axis of the old building with a glazed hallway connecting the two new buildings West and East to the main building.

The new building West includes, among other things, an operating room, the intensive care unit, examination and treatment rooms, as well as a direct connection to the helicopter land site on the Marienberg. The operating area was equipped with a central service and work zone for efficient work. The wards are located in the new building east. Its modular structure allows a flexible use of the building. The workplaces of the wards are planned for optimum patient care in a close and decentralized way.
