Compact and multi-functional

The new building erected on the site of the German Institute for Nutritional Sciences (DIfE) creates central premises for clinical investigations in the form of a centre for human studies with an investigation area and an adjoining primary laboratory. The preparation and storing of the biospecimens takes place in a central biomaterial bank. The experimental departments will be expanded by offices, communication rooms for seminars and conferences, as well as space for teaching.

The compact building has to take into account the various demands of the different function rooms. Thus, ground-floor rooms are recommended for utilitarian areas involving visitor traffic. This need for space is absorbed by the extension of the ground floor to make a one-story new building. For the seminar area, a separate entrance, lounge area and hospitality rooms are set up. When so required, this area can split off from the main building and used independently.
