Using resources cooperatively
The design of the building is based on a clearly structured development and floor plan concept. The nearly square new building is divided into a secure laboratory area over four levels and a public office and foyer area. The offices on the upper floor are grouped around the overglazed atrium in the centre of the building. Around 100 employees will work in the new research facility. They will need office space and biochemical laboratories with protection levels S1 to S3 for their work.

The building concept promotes cooperation and synergies between the research areas, whether in the technical area through shared use of the central functions in the laboratory clusters or in the social area through open galleries on the central atrium. Moreover, the social spaces of the individual research areas are brought together on the fourth floor. Instead of the otherwise usual, solitary kitchenettes, a shared communal area is created here with a roof terrace for all staff.
